Getting your eye exam at an Opti-W clinic inside Walmart

Opti-W, a clinic located inside Walmart

Opti-W is not Walmart: we are independent optometry clinics operating inside Walmart stores, with our own team of licensed optometrists and opticians. You get the convenience of Walmart (parking, extended hours, shopping under the same roof) while being cared for by a real professional clinic.

What a complete eye exam includes

An Opti-W exam is performed by an optometrist registered with the Ordre des optométristes du Québec. It covers:

  • Visual acuity, far and near
  • Refraction analysis (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia)
  • Intraocular pressure check
  • Fundus exam and eye health assessment
  • Your updated prescription

Who is covered by RAMQ

Quebec's public health insurance (RAMQ) covers a complete eye exam in several cases:

  • Children and youth under 18: one exam per year.
  • Adults 65 and over: one exam per year.
  • People with certain medical conditions (diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, etc.), regardless of age.

In those cases, the exam is covered by RAMQ. Our team confirms your eligibility at check-in. See our RAMQ guide for the full list.

Direct billing with private insurance

Most group insurance plans reimburse an exam every 12 to 24 months. We offer direct billing with major insurers when your contract allows, so you don't have to pay upfront. Details on our insurance and payment page.

Why choose a clinic inside Walmart

  • Convenience: easy to reach, often open evenings and weekends.
  • One stop: exam, frame selection and shopping in the same place.
  • A large selection of glasses in store, with our current promotions.
