Protecting your eyes from blue light

Published on June 3, 2025 6 min read

The real problem

Blue light doesn't damage your retina day to day. The real issue is digital eye strain: dry eyes, blurred vision, headaches after hours on screens.

What helps

  • 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
  • Blue-light filter lenses: available at Opti-W, they reduce evening strain. See our specialty lenses.
  • Night mode on your devices.
  • Distance: 20-28 inches from the screen, slightly below eye level.

Sleep

Blue light at night disrupts melatonin. Avoid screens 1 h before bed, or wear filtering lenses.

Get your eyes checked

If strain persists, an exam can rule out a hidden prescription. Book an exam at your Opti-W clinic.
